Hi

Below is an e-mail from Karen Inkster, Ramblers Walks Officer about walks leader training course she is running on the 25th June in Newton Aycliffe.

...........................................................................

As Led Walks Officer with a GB remit I am running 10 walk leader training courses throughout the UK this spring/summer. The main target audience is members who have walked with the Ramblers, but have not yet led their first walk. It appears most groups are struggling to find new walk leaders and to run training to encourage and support new leaders. Thus I am running some training courses, focusing mainly on leadership skills (how to plan a suitable walk, manage group dynamics, how to deal with an incident etc…) but also to go on a led walk in the afternoon. I am also happy to have non members come along, basically anyone who likes walking & wants to lead for their local group is welcome. The event is free too!

The date is Monday 25th June 2012 & the venue is Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre, Beveridge Arcade, Newton Aycliffe, Co Durham DL5 4EH. The venue is booked from 10am-4pm & the room holds 200 people.

The plan of the day is
10.00 -10.30 Registration & tea/coffee
10.30 -12.45 Leadership presentation (with a 15min break in between)
12.45- 1.15 Lunch (walkers to bring their own packed lunch)
1.15 - 3.15 Local walk led by local volunteer
3.15- 3.30 Back to centre, hand out certificates/feedback forms

To book a place at this free event or to find out more information please contact Led Walks Officer Karen Inkster ledwalks@ramblers.or.uk or call 0207339 8519

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings but this course has been cancelled. Unfortunately there hasn’t been enough interest to warrant running the course.

Obviously aimed at the Wrinkly Ramblers anyway since it was on a work day, and they are all hardened veterans anyway.
